Medical Social Worker Travel/Contract Job - Massachusetts, Worcester

  • Day (4x10 hours): 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM
• Hours per Week: 40 (guaranteed)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct initial comprehensive assessments of clients needing behavioral health services, including clinical interviews and collateral contacts when appropriate.
• Formulate diagnoses and provide treatment recommendations.
• Engage clients in safety and crisis planning.
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
• Assess eligibility for services, medical necessity, and treatment preferences.
• Develop treatment plans incorporating client strengths, preferences, and behaviorally based goals.
• Make referrals to indicated services and coordinate care on behalf of clients.
• Must be flexible to work weekends as needed.
• Must be willing to float to all locations within a 35-mile radius.
• May be required to travel/transport patients in personal vehicle depending on assignment.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Social Worker license in Massachusetts (e.g., LCSW, LICSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) license in Massachusetts
• Minimum of 1 year of recent experience (within the last year) as a Social Worker or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
• Experience providing social work or therapy services in behavioral health settings
• Ability to adapt to changing hours and assignment locations with advanced notice
• Ability to travel within a 35-mile radius to multiple locations daily

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Valid driver’s license or state ID.
• Background check including:

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start covering all counties lived/worked.
  • SSN trace, national criminal search, sex offender search, and other federal/state checks as required.
• Education verification of highest completed degree (transcripts acceptable if education verification is unperformable).
• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, including physician statement of fitness to work without restrictions.
• Drug testing within 30 days of start (urine panel including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, fentanyl, oxycodone, and others).
• Immunizations or documented immunity/declinations for:

  • COVID-19 (most recent vaccine or facility-specific declination)
  • Influenza (seasonal vaccine or declination)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
• Tuberculosis screening: Two PPD tests or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days; chest x-ray if positive TB history.
• Completion of TB questionnaire annually.
• References: Two professional references within the last three years.
• Employment application documenting 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
• Skills checklist updated annually as applicable.

Additional Notes

• Preference given to candidates with no return-to-office (RTO) days, but up to 5 RTO days allowed.
• Start date must be May 4; submissions with May 11 start considered but less preferred.
• Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours and locations with advanced notice.
• May require completion of crisis prevention or other specialty-specific training modules onsite.

This position is ideal for social workers with at least one year of recent experience, who hold or are pursuing a Massachusetts independent license, and who are flexible and mobile within the Worcester area.
