Registered Nurse - Med Surg Oncology (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• 12-hour day/night or night shifts on a rotating schedule (days, nights, or combination) based on department needs. Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed.
• Patient population primarily includes:

  • Patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
  • Patients with soft tissue malignancies receiving diagnostics, chemotherapy, and symptom management
  • Symptom management related to disease progression or treatment
  • Management of comorbidities
• Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• Special equipment used:

  • GE telemetry system (B450 monitors)
  • Bladder Scanner
  • Alaris pumps
  • Stryker beds

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience (2 years), including within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Accessing ports
• Arterial line management
• Blood product administration
• Central line care and management
• PICC line management
• Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
• High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) experience
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) competency
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Skills Required

• Blood product administration
• Central line and PICC line care/management
• IV start
• Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Certifications & Compliance Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, FBI/BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
• Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
• Annual competency exams including:

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam
  • Unit-specific competency exams
• License verification within 30 days of start (RN license)
• Professional references: 2 required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership role

Additional Notes

• Floating to other units with similar or lower acuity is required
• Shift assignments may vary based on staffing needs
• Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory
• Compliance with facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, and fraud/waste/abuse training is required
• Candidates must complete fingerprinting and background checks as per Ohio state requirements before starting
• Candidates must complete all required certifications and health documentation prior to or shortly after start date

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with oncology-related med-surg care, telemetry monitoring, and complex line management, who are flexible with rotating shifts and floating within similar acuity units.
