Travel Registered Nurse – Stepdown Neuro
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- 36 or 48-hour shift options available
- Mixed Acuity unit: Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Stepdown care levels
- 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
- Patient population includes strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Med Surg/Telemetry: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights
- Stepdown: 1:3-4 (days and nights)
- RNs must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs, including to other units and campuses within the system
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, and paramedics; LPNs assigned on some floors
- Drip medication administration required on all floors
- EPIC electronic charting experience required
- First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Weekend shifts required: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days or nights)
- Holiday work requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
- Pending license accepted but must be in hand at time of submission to avoid booking delays
- Mandatory scrubs policy (specific color and style required)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting
- At least 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- Experience with EPIC electronic charting system
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background checks include multiple federal and state screenings
- State-specific registry checks required
- Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required
- COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted
- Parking permit available for a monthly fee or daily parking options
Important Notes
- Travelers are first to float and must be flexible to meet unit needs
- RTO (Request Time Off) blackout dates apply during College World Series (June 11–22, 2026)
- Up to two weeks of RTO permitted with prior approval
- Scrubs with facility branding are mandatory and provided after confirmation
- This is a high-acuity neuro stepdown role requiring strong clinical skills and adaptability
