Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Cardiac ICU
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Pediatric Cardiology Intensive Care Unit (PCICU)
- 29-bed, Beacon Award-Winning unit
- Referral center for major pediatric cardiac surgery in South Carolina
- Average daily census: 26 patients
- Patient population includes congenital heart disease of any age
- Common procedures: cardiac surgery, ventricular assist devices (VAD), heart transplant, cardiac catheterization
- Provides advanced therapies including ECMO and CRRT
- Multidisciplinary team includes RNs, Patient Care Technicians, Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pharmacists
- All beds are monitored beds
Work Schedule & Staffing
- Shifts: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, including holiday rotation
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required
- Guaranteed hours: traveler may be cancelled one shift every 2 weeks
- Travel pairs are not accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CVPICU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients, including cardiovascular (CV) experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
Additional Requirements
- Must complete facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Background check including 7 years of history and multiple registries
- Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccination or declination
- Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption during flu season
- COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Education verification and licensure primary source verification required
- Proof of 2 clinical references
- Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
Notes
- The unit is a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet Hospital, and Teaching Facility
- Charting system: EPIC
- Local candidates within 60 miles accepted
- Block scheduling accommodations available at manager’s discretion
