Registered Nurse - Stepdown/PCU Unit
Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a 34-bed Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient ratio approximately 1:5 (may fluctuate with census)
- Use of Meditech EMR system
- Float within scope of practice required
- Every other weekend shift required
- Blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated
- Schedule typically follows a 36/48 hour rotation over two weeks
- Orientation offered bi-weekly
- Must reside within 75 miles of the facility
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of current RN experience in a similar setting
- Valid Kentucky RN license or compact license
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RN specialties except OR and Psych)
- Driver’s license required for submission
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (AHA Instructor/Provider/RQI)
- ACLS (AHA Instructor/Provider/RQI)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required except for Psych, OR, Rehab, and Med Surg units)
- Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Health & Background Requirements
- Annual physical exam or physician note stating clearance to work without restrictions
- Negative TB test via QuantiFERON blood test within 1 year (T-Spot/PPD not accepted)
- Proof of immunizations or titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Td not accepted)
- Annual drug screening with specific panel (no THC) within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Fit mask test completed onsite (PAPRs not accommodated; exemptions reviewed onsite)
Background & Verification
- Comprehensive background check including criminal, sex offender, fugitive, and county searches for last 7 years
- Education verification
- Employment application and resume with education and work history
- 7-year work history verification (third-party vendor or attestation letters)
- Two professional references within 1 year of start date (one must be a supervisor)
- State-specific registry checks as applicable (e.g., Kentucky Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry)
Scheduling & Other Notes
- Must be available for every other weekend shifts
- Float assignments required within scope of practice
- Blocked scheduling is not possible
- Assignment confirmation required within 24 hours of offer acceptance
