Registered Nurse - Telemetry

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Heart & Vascular Unit (49 beds)
  • Specialty medical/surgical unit focused on cardiovascular care
  • Patient population includes stable heart and lung transplants, and Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs)
  • Fast-paced environment with opportunities for professional growth
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare)

Work Schedule & Floating

  • 36 or 48-hour shift options available
  • Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
  • Floating required frequently to meet staffing needs, including to multiple other units and potentially a different campus
  • Units for floating may include medical/surgical, neuro, trauma, observation, and others
  • Travelers are first to float

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Experience must be in a large, urban hospital setting
  • First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Drip medication administration required on all floors

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active RN license for Nebraska required (pending license accepted if in hand before start; booking delayed if not)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • CPI preferred
  • Other certifications as applicable (PALS, NRP)

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
  • Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
  • 100% nicotine-free facility
  • Mandatory scrubs (specific color and style required)
  • Background check, drug screen, and various health documents required prior to start
  • Physical exam, immunizations, and competency exams required and must be current
  • Annual skills checklist required

Facility Notes

  • Large acute-care hospital with a focus on complex cardiovascular patients
  • Emphasis on teamwork including CNAs, care techs, transport team, and paramedics
  • Parking permits available for a fee or daily parking options

Summary of Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license in Nebraska
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience in a large, urban hospital (preferably Level I Academic Medical Center)
  • EPIC charting experience
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Ability and willingness to float frequently
  • Must be nicotine-free
  • Willingness to work required holidays and weekend shifts

Important Compliance & Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background check including federal and state-level screenings
  • Drug screening within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations: Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu (preferred), COVID (preferred or exemption accepted)
  • TB testing and chest x-ray if applicable
  • Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
  • References from work within past 2 years required
  • State-specific registry checks and education verification required

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with cardiovascular or telemetry experience who are comfortable in a fast-paced, specialty medical/surgical environment and able to float across multiple units.

Friendly to travelers, flexible self scheduling, low cost of living, very forgiving with nursing lack of experience

Cons

Ethics are questionable at best, M/S unit demands higher acuity of care than most hospitals M/S units; a lot of the nurses are inexperienced.
