Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00–07:30), weekdays and weekends (3 shifts per 4-week schedule)
Unit: 34-bed Medical/Surgical unit with telemetry
Patient Ratio: 1:5–7
EMR System: Cerner

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Job Details & Expectations

• Attendance is critical; facility allows only 2–3 call-offs per contract due to prior attendance issues
• Scrubs are not provided
• Work within a 75-mile radius of the facility
• Must complete all required facility-specific training and competency exams prior to start
• Must submit a complete application packet including:

  • Candidate profile/work history
  • Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
  • Minimum 2 clinical manager/charge nurse references from the past 2 years
  • RN license verification (recently pulled)
  • Copies of all required certifications

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required and must be current
• Education verification required
• Completion of facility-specific documents such as:

  • Background drug screen consent form
  • Non-disclosure of confidential information agreement
  • Parking pass application
  • ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys
  • Care Learning Modules and Cerner Learning Training Modules (must be completed prior to orientation)
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD within 1 year or equivalent)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (preferred)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella titers or vaccinations within 2 years (signed declination accepted if negative/low/equivocal)
  • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series or declination
  • Varicella titer or vaccination within 2 years (signed declination accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • COVID vaccine or declination required
• Drug screening: 10-panel within 30 days of start and updated annually
• Color blindness testing and competency exams as applicable
• Must complete all required stroke education CEUs annually (8 hours)

Additional Notes

• Candidates must provide all required documentation and certifications before starting; no pending certifications allowed
• Facility uses Cerner EMR; candidates must complete Cerner training modules prior to orientation
• Point of Care Technician application required for Cath Lab RNs (not applicable for this MedSurg role)
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
• Workers Compensation documentation preferred but not mandatory

This position offers a structured night shift schedule on a telemetry-capable Med/Surg unit, requiring solid MedSurg RN experience and compliance with comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
