Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position specialty: Emergency Department (ED) Surge nurse assigned to inpatient/CICU level holds within the ED.
- Patient diagnoses commonly encountered: Chest pain, syncope, heart failure, sepsis, overdose, GI bleed, COPD, pneumonia, medical/surgical/trauma/oncology/orthopedic overflow.
- Procedures and care: Management and titration of drips (Lasix, Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Integrillin, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine).
- Equipment used: Bipap, Cpap, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, Phillips monitoring system.
- Floating expectations: Assist with team nursing, floated to similar units, patient sitting; no assignment outside clinical expertise.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Hampshire
- Minimum of 2 years of Cardiac Stepdown nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- Medication Administration by IV Push (MAB) certification
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, including:
- Social Security verification
- National sex offender registry
- National and state criminal searches (excluding NH counties; NH State Police search required instead)
- Education verification (high school acceptable for CNAs)
- Motor vehicle background check if driving is required
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start (no exceptions).
- Health documents required:
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Annual fit mask test (N95 or equivalent)
- Immunizations and titers: Tdap (within 10 years), TB test (2-step PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination or waiver accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during October 31 – April 1 period (medical or religious exemptions allowed with documentation)
- Respiratory safety clearance questionnaire completed prior to start
- Facility-specific attestations and acknowledgments, including OSHA education and compliance attestations.
Additional Information
- Orientation includes pass/fail Basic Dysrhythmia HealthStream exam onsite with a passing score of 80%.
- SSA release and state-specific releases (NH and MA if applicable) required for background verification.
- Photo for badge (passport style, jpeg format) required.
- Auto insurance proof required if driving is part of the job.
- Candidates with Hepatitis B vaccine declination must complete a waiver.
- Candidates requesting medical or religious exemptions for vaccines must provide appropriate documentation and complete facility-specific waiver forms.

The role involves caring for complex cardiac and critical care patients held in the ED, managing drips, and working with advanced monitoring equipment. First-time travelers are accepted only with EPIC experience and 2 years of nursing experience.
