Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Patient Ratio: 1:6
Unit: 2 East – Dedicated Education Unit (22-bed unit focused on new graduate nurse education)
Floating: Floating to other units expected at times

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Work Expectations

• Must confirm understanding and acceptance of floating to other units before finalizing contract
• Holiday work policy:

  • If 1 holiday falls during assignment, expect to work it
  • If 2 holidays, expect to work 1
  • If 3 holidays, expect to work 2
• Must comply with facility policies and complete all required documentation prior to start

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• 7-year criminal background check (including SSN trace, counties lived/worked in last 7 years, statewide checks for last 3 years, sex offender registry)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually
• Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (including marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable, with annual TB questionnaire
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination, positive titer, or declination
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (strict deadlines apply)
• Fit mask test (N95 preferred), updated annually; onsite testing available
• Completion and acknowledgment of facility-specific policies including:

  • Standards of Appearance, Dress Code, Social Media Policy, Confidentiality Agreement, Compliance Acknowledgement, Masking Requirements, Parking Registration, and others
• Required competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
• Two professional references and current application/resume required
• Skills checklist updated annually

Additional Notes

• This position is not open to local candidates within 50 miles
• Floating to other units is a mandatory part of the role and must be acknowledged before contract signing
• The unit is a teaching-focused environment, working closely with new graduate nurses as preceptors
• Candidates must be prepared to work assigned holidays according to the outlined policy
• All required documentation and forms must be completed and submitted prior to start date
