Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Indianapolis, Indiana


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts of 10 hours each (9:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Hours per Week: 40 hours guaranteed (options for 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts with varying weekly hours)
  • Facility Type: Short-Term Acute Care Hospital
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Parking: Free

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatrics PACU - Post Anesthetic Care
  • Pediatrics PACU - Post Anesthetic Care experience within the last year
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS issued by American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Work Requirements

  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
  • Perioperative/OR RNs, including PACU, are exempt from restrictions on Indiana RN travelers effective 11/30/2024

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days of start, including 7-year history and multiple national/statewide checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma required (may be pending at start if needed)
  • Online license verification within 30 days before start

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (no instant tests)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles) – positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
    • Mumps – positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
    • Rubella – positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
    • Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap – strongly recommended
  • Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray if positive test history
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 – 3/31)

Competency and Skills Verification

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit competency exam required
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score

Documentation and Forms

  • Valid driver’s license or passport (clear copy)
  • Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days
  • Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years (supervisory titles required)
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements prior to start
  • Completion of orientation packets and tests as required by the facility

Additional Notes

  • Scrub color provided by facility
  • IU Health Riley Hospital for Children requires some specific orientation and compliance modules for certain roles (not applicable to RN PACU unless specified)
  • On-site fit testing available only as a last resort and with prior approval
