Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Whitesburg, Kentucky
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Provide nursing care in Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum (PP), and Nursery units within a Level 1 acute care setting.
• Float within scope of practice as needed.
• Work schedule: Every other weekend required; blocked scheduling not accommodated.
• Shift options: Day shift, 3 or 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM).
• Patient-to-nurse ratios may fluctuate based on census and call-ins.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kentucky.
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• Experience in Postpartum and Nursery care.
• Experience in an acute care setting.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
  • Intermediate AWHONN Fetal Monitoring.
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must reside within 75 miles of the facility to be considered.

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Background checks including a comprehensive 9-panel drug screen (no THC) with expanded opiates and oxycodone, completed within 30 days prior to start.
• Verification of education and licensure (primary source verification required).
• Annual physical exam or physician statement within 1 year prior to start, confirming clearance to work without restrictions.
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Negative TB test (Qgold only) within 1 year, renewed annually.
  • Proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers.
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination within 1 year.
  • Varicella vaccinations or positive titer.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years (Td not accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season.
• Fit mask test to be completed onsite; PAPRs not accommodated due to facial hair restrictions. Medical or religious exemptions must be submitted on day one.
• Competency exams required within one year prior to start and renewed annually:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (not required for Psych, OR, Rehab, or true Med Surg units).
  • Core competencies (Parts I, II, III).
• References: Two professional references within 1 year of start date; one must be a supervisor or higher. Charge RN acceptable for one reference only.
• Work history verification covering 7 years, preferably through a third-party vendor; attestation letters accepted if verification attempts are exhausted.
• Completion of facility-specific job description and safety manual acknowledgment, renewed annually.
• Completion of employee health attestation and compliance with facility health documentation requirements (including TB risk assessment, OSHA respirator medical evaluation, and flu vaccine/exemption upload).

Additional Notes

• Orientation occurs bi-weekly; start date is the date needed on assignment.
• Candidates must submit assignment confirmation within 24 hours of offer acceptance.
• Candidates should not be submitted for multiple jobs simultaneously.
• Facility uses Meditech EMR system.
