Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Dothan, Alabama
Shift: Day (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work on a Urology Unit with high acuity patients.
- Patient ratios are 1:6 or 1:7; candidates must be comfortable managing these ratios.
- Proficiency required with insulin and heparin drips.
- Peritoneal dialysis experience is a plus but not required.
- Orientation occurs every other Monday; contracts end on a Tuesday.
- Block booking available except on holidays; every other weekend required.
- New travel nurses are welcome to apply.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience with strong high acuity skills.
- Active, compact or Alabama RN license in good standing.
- BLS certification required.
- NIH Stroke Certification required (must be current within 1 year and updated annually).
- COVID-19 vaccination required unless a documented religious or medical exemption is provided.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required or documented religious/medical exemption.
- Must be comfortable working with high patient acuity and complex medication drips.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Must live at least 90 miles from the facility (90-mile radius rule).
- Driver’s license name must exactly match RN license name.
- Social Security card or last four digits of SSN must be provided.
- Background checks required: 7-year criminal history, SS trace, county, nationwide, FACIS Level 3, sex offender, education verification.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
- Education verification via clearinghouse, agency, or official transcript.
- NURSYS verification required for license validation.
- Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form must be completed and signed prior to orientation.
- Facility-specific modules must be completed by the Friday before start date.
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no nose ring) required within 72 hours of signing.
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands required and updated annually.
- Annual fit mask test required (specific approved mask models).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required; TB questionnaire required for all.
- Immunization or titer documentation required for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination).
- Drug testing: 10-panel test within 90 days of start, updated annually; instant/rapid tests not accepted.
- Proof of 2 clinical references within the last 12 months (up to 18 months if necessary).
- Complete employment application/resume and skills checklist updated annually.
Orientation & Work Details
- Orientation is 16 non-billable hours.
- Scrub colors: all navy or navy pants with white top.
- Pay periods run Wednesday through Tuesday; contracts end on a Tuesday.
Additional Notes
- Flu vaccination declinations are only accepted with documented medical or religious exemptions on facility forms; mask wearing required if exempt.
- COVID vaccine is voluntary but required unless exemption is documented.
- Facility will provide NIH Stroke Certification training after candidate clearance.
- Candidates must complete all required facility modules before orientation or they will not be allowed to start.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with high acuity, complex medication drips, and managing larger patient ratios in a specialized urology setting.
