Job Description
- Work primarily in the Emergency Department (ED) with cross-training and floating to other campuses including Observation and other ED locations.
- Assigned to one campus with possible rotation to others.
- Trauma/rescue rooms, triage, and locked behavioral health units are not assigned to travelers.
- Patient ratios average 1:6 for both day and night shifts.
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend.
- Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs.
- Block scheduling accommodations available.
- Guaranteed hours.
Shift Details
- Day Shift: 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Evening Shift: 3:00 PM to 3:00 AM (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Total hours per week: 48
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut.
- Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year.
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- Current certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Additional Requirements & Training
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually.
- Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation.
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- COVID vaccination series preferred.
- Multiple facility-specific education modules and attestations including but not limited to:
- Stroke Education (not required for pediatric or NICU)
- CAUTI Education (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
- Pyxis ES MedStation training
- Baxter Pump Interoperability training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (not required at some campuses)
- Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026)
- Language Services Training required.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred for ER RNs; required for Behavioral Health.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ER/ED and telemetry units.
- Color Blind Testing required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024.
- EPIC electronic health record testing or training required for ER RNs with EPIC experience.
Work History & References
- Must provide 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days.
- Employment verification required for the last 7 years.
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU assignments; otherwise, standard references apply.
- Charge nurse references are not accepted.
Policies
- Weekend call-out makeup policy: If a traveler calls out on a scheduled weekend shift, a makeup shift will be scheduled on another weekend within 6 weeks.
- Makeup shifts replace a scheduled weekday shift to avoid overtime unless approved.
- Makeup shifts are tracked and have consequences for repeated call-outs.

Always given very easy assignments. Their MICU is combined with the MICU stepdown so travelers were put in stepdown once a week but it’s a 1:3 ratio there and assignments were fair

Very large unit so hard to get to know everyone/find people to help sometimes
