Intermediate Care Unit RN

Overview

• 13-week contract
• 36 hours per week
• Night shift: 7P-7A
• Start needed: 10/20
• First-time travelers accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maine
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 1 year of Intermediate Care experience
• Intermediate Care experience within the last year
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• Experience with trached patients on vents, including administering 100% FiO2 via suction support and silencing alarms
• Trach care and trach suctioning
• Stroke patient care with Q2H neuro checks
• Post stable craniotomy experience or comfort caring for this patient type with confidence in neuro checks
• High-flow O2 experience
• Trauma patient experience
• Chest tube management
• Wound Vacs/VAC dressing changes
• Bipap experience
• Non-titrating vasoactive or antiarrhythmic drips

Preferred

• 2 years of Med/Surg experience with some PCU if not already Intermediate/PCU level

Unit Details

• 12-bed Intermediate Care Unit
• Patient population includes cardiac and medical patients, post-op general surgery or trauma, s/p cardiac cath, s/p ablation, 24h post-op TAVR, STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFIB with RVR, Sepsis, COPD, ETOH withdrawal, IVDA, COVID, PNA, and respiratory failure requiring Bipap or High Flow O2
• Long-term traches with vents, COVID, trauma, sepsis, stroke, and stable craniotomies (coils or clips)
• Float scope includes ED, ICU, and CCU when there is an intermediate assignment in those departments

Support on the Unit

• CNA support
• Charge nurse may take patients if needed
• Phlebotomy
• Resource nurse 24/7 ICU trained
• RT 24/7
• Hospitalist 24/7
• Trauma surgery monitors own patients
• PT/OT Monday through Friday
• IV/VAT team available for US-guided IVs and PICC/Midline placement; RN starts own PIVs

Scheduling and Logistics

• Weekend rotation every other
• Up to 7 days of time off may be approved
• Holiday requests require manager approval
• Holiday expectations vary based on unit needs
• General hospital orientation followed by 1 day on the unit
• Any scrub color is allowed as long as it is professional
• Free parking in designated areas
