Job Opportunity: Central Sterile Technician
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Responsible for performing sterilization procedures on medical instruments and equipment in accordance with established procedures, infection control standards, industry standards, recommended practices on sterilization, and regulatory requirements.
Patient Care: Not required
Essential Functions
- Process specialty and general instruments
- Reset instrument sets without error
- Decontaminate instruments and equipment according to procedure
- Maintain Central Sterile Department stock levels
- Prepare and assemble surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing
- Communicate instrument repair needs to supervisor
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Experience cannot substitute for education
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required
Experience
- 4 years preferred (higher end of 2-4 years range specified)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of case cart assembly
- Familiarity with regulatory standards of materials management
- Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
Prior Travel Experience
- Not specified / not required
Onboarding and Credential Requirements
- Recent color photo (within 6 months), plain background, no eyeglasses
- License/Certificate verification (CRCST required; CBSPD or HSPA accepted)
- Documentation of immunizations: MMR, Influenza (required during flu season), Hepatitis B (strongly preferred), Tdap (preferred)
- TB test documentation within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test)
- Physician health statement within 1 year of start date
- Respirator Medical Clearance attestation if fit testing required
- Criminal background check, Massachusetts CORI, SSN trace, National Sex Offender Check, and Exclusion Checks (all required prior to onboarding)
- Resume including past 7 years of work experience
- Two recent references (minimum one supervisor or above)
- Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet

- No patient care responsibilities
- Must adhere to strict infection control and sterilization standards
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy required in instrument processing and tray assembly
