Travel RN - Step Down / PCU Unit
Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a 34-bed Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient ratios approximately 1:5 (may fluctuate with census)
- Utilize Meditech EMR system
- Orientation offered bi-weekly
- Schedule: 36 hours on / 48 hours off over a two-week pay period
- Must reside within 100 miles of the facility
Required Experience
- Minimum 2+ years of current RN Step Down experience
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Kentucky RN license or compact RN license valid in Kentucky
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA card, front and back if not electronic)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification (AHA card, front and back if not electronic)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for RN specialties except OR and Psych)
Required Health & Immunizations
- COVID-19 vaccine or approved exemption
- Proof of 2 MMR vaccinations or positive titer (or started series with required follow-up)
- Proof of 3 Hepatitis B vaccine series or declination
- Proof of 2 Varicella vaccinations or positive titer (or started series with required follow-up)
- Tdap vaccination valid within 10 years (declinations accepted)
- Annual Influenza vaccine (October-March) or approved medical/religious exemption
- Annual physical or health statement signed by MD, DO, PA, or NP stating clear to work without restrictions
- TB Quantiferon blood test within one year prior to start (or equivalent)
- If positive TB record, proof of chest X-ray within last 5 years plus TB questionnaire
Required Background & Compliance
- Background check within 30 days prior to start including: 7-year county history, nationwide criminal, SSN trace, national sex offender, SAM, OIG
- Drug screen within 30 days prior to start (includes multiple substances; marijuana/THC excluded)
- Verification of nursing license within 30 days prior to start
- Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry verification (Kentucky) within 30 days prior to start
- Submission packet including cover sheet, resume, skills checklist, driver’s license, and license/certification verification in one PDF
- Two professional references required: one charge nurse or higher, one supervisor reference within the last year
Required Skills & Competency Exams
- Unit-specific skills checklist within one year prior to start
- Competency exam within one year prior to start (actual documents required, no certificates)
- EKG and telemetry exam within one year prior to start (actual documents required)
- Core competencies including HIPAA, patient rights, safety orientation, bloodborne pathogens, fire safety, infection control, elder abuse and neglect, age-specific care, cultural diversity, advance directives (annual update required)
Additional Notes
- Assignment confirmation must be uploaded within 24 hours of offer acceptance
- Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position
This position requires a highly qualified RN with Step Down experience, current certifications, and compliance with all health and background requirements to ensure readiness for a travel assignment in a progressive care setting.
