Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Ambulatory Care

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Ambulatory Care
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 5x8 hour shifts (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Weekend Requirements: None
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days, no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
  • Floating: Mandatory float within scope to meet facility needs

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • Experience with both adult and pediatric patients preferred

Location Requirements

  • Candidates must live within 75 miles of the facility (locals only)
  • Pending licenses are not accepted

Required Certifications (as applicable)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for certain units
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required/preferred for specific units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for L&D, NICU
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for RNs in critical care, ER, L&D, Med Surg, NICU, PACU, PCU, Pediatrics, PICU, Telemetry (must be updated annually)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment

Required Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (for starts on/after 4/14/24)
  • Color Blind Testing (for starts on/after 1/16/24)
  • Competency Exam (for starts on/after 4/14/24)

Background & Verification Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Illinois Health Care Worker Registry Search (not required for RNs)
  • Other background checks as applicable

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months, updated annually
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/01 - 04/01)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required as of 8/21/2025

Additional Notes

  • Must complete facility-specific forms and rules of behavior prior to start
  • References: 2 references within 2 years preferred but not mandatory for start
  • Skills checklist and employment application required annually
