Medical Technologist - Travel/Contract

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks

Job Summary

• Work with patient populations ranging from neonates to geriatrics.
• Perform laboratory testing including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Body Fluid Analysis.
• Facility processes approximately 5,000 tests per day.
• Utilize unit systems: Epic, Hitachi, Sysmex XM, Roche Cobas.
• Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (8:30 AM – 5:00 PM).
• Floating within facility as needed; possible float to a nearby campus (~3 miles).
• Every other weekend required.
• No on-call requirements.
• Expected to work major holidays if they fall within the assignment period (see below).

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Technologist, with experience within the last year.
• ASCP certification (MLT, MLS, or MT) required.
• Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.

Certifications & Competencies

• ASCP (MLT, MLS, MT) certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted (AHA or ARC).
• Color Blind Testing required; alternative assessment available for blood collection tube color identification.
• Competency exams as required by the employer (e.g., medication test/pharmacology, competency exam).
• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start.

Orientation & Compliance

• Return to Office (RTO) within 7 days of assignment start.
• Orientation hours are non-billable and proportional to contract length.
• Full compliance with background checks, education verification, and health documents required prior to start.

Background & Health Requirements

• Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC).
• TB testing (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months; if positive, additional documentation required.
• Annual TB questionnaire required regardless of TB test results.
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer).
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended).
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31).

Work Environment & Additional Information

• Scrub color: Teal.
• Floating within scope of practice may be required.
• Major holidays expected to work if they fall during assignment:

  • Christmas Eve/Christmas Day
  • New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day
