Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work option of 36 or 48 hours per week with 13 or 26 week contract options.
- Specialty: Mixed Acuity (Medical Surgical/Telemetry & Stepdown).
- Multi-care level unit; nurses should be prepared to care for up to five Med Surg patients.
- 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery, including patients with strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological conditions.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Medical Surgical/Telemetry: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights.
- Stepdown: 1:3-4 (days and nights).
- Drip infusions required on all floors.
- EPIC electronic charting experience required.
- Frequent floating required to meet staffing needs, including potential float to other campuses.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days or nights).
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from the facility.
- 100% nicotine-free facility.
- Scrubs required (specific color and style; details provided upon confirmation).
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska.
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in a large, urban hospital setting.
- EPIC charting experience.
- Drip infusion experience.
- First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- Must be prepared to float within scope to various units.
- Pending license accepted if not in hand at time of application, but booking will be delayed by six weeks.
- Must be willing to work required weekends and holidays.
Certifications & Compliance
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required as applicable.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) as applicable.
- NIH Stroke Certification required as applicable.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including federal and state-level screenings.
- Drug screening within 60 days of start and updated annually.
- Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations required: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, annual flu vaccination or declination.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start.
- Education verification and primary source license verification required.
- Skills checklist and competency exams required annually.
- References: 2 work references from the past 2 years required.

- Travelers are first to float to meet staffing needs.

- Strict RTO (Request Time Off) policy with blackout dates during College World Series.
- Scrubs with facility branding are mandatory.
