Job Opportunity: NICU Registered Nurse

Location: Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - NICU
  • Shift: Nights
  • Schedule: Various days of the week
  • Weekend Requirement: 5 weekend night shifts per month
  • On-call: Yes, as needed per unit
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including postpartum couplets when census is low
  • Unit Info:
    • 10-bed unit with 5 labor rooms and 5 postpartum rooms
    • Level II NICU accepting babies 32 weeks and older
    • NICU nurses also care for postpartum couplets
  • Charting System: Epic

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience with Level II NICU experience or greater, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with neonate patients
  • Experience in newborn transition nursing and postpartum care
  • Postpartum nursing experience required
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience required

Certifications Required

  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required
  • STABLE certification preferred

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Colorado

Additional Requirements

  • Must be preclosed on housing prior to submission
  • Able to work independently in NICU and postpartum couplets
  • Must complete all required background checks, verifications, and health documents prior to start
  • Must comply with facility-specific health and safety requirements including:
    • Physical exam within 1 year
    • Fit mask test within 12 months
    • Immunizations and titers (TDAP, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu, COVID) or approved declinations
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Drug testing within 30 days of start
    • Color blind exam (Ishihara test) prior to start
  • Required competencies and annual updates including medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, OSHA, and core competency exams
  • Must provide 2 professional references from the last 2 years, including one from the last year
  • Employment history verification for the last 3 years required

Time Off Policy

  • Maximum of 10 RTO (Return to Office) days approved
  • RTO not allowed during certain holiday periods (late December, mid-March, early May, late May)

Notes

  • Weekend and on-call shifts are mandatory
  • Floating between NICU and postpartum couplets expected
  • Candidates must confirm renewal plans for any certifications expiring within 90 days of assignment start to avoid clearance issues

This position is ideal for NICU RNs with solid Level II NICU experience who are comfortable working nights, weekends, and floating between NICU and postpartum care. First-time travelers are welcome.
