Job Summary
Seeking a Respiratory Therapist with Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience for a travel contract assignment. The role involves providing respiratory care across hospital floors with flexibility to support nursery and emergency room as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- Experience working with Neonate and Pediatric patients
- Current certifications in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
Work Schedule & Environment
- Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts, day (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM) and night (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM) rotations.
- Scheduling: Rotation schedule with variation based on department needs; flexible scheduling required.
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirements: Yes.
- Floating: Required to float to hospital floors, nursery, and ER as needed.
- Patient Population: Neonate through adult (age range 0-100+).
- Special Equipment: Puritan Bennett 980 & 840 ventilators, LTV1200 ventilators available 24/7 for support.
Orientation & Dress Code
- Orientation: 2 days.
- Dress Code: Scrubs in black or ceil blue; closed, non-skid shoes; minimal jewelry; groomed hair/beard (no beard if wearing N95 mask); follow hospital dress code policies for nail polish.
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must be flexible with schedule to meet unit and patient care needs.
- Reliable personal transportation strongly recommended (public transportation not accessible).
- Vehicle should be equipped with all-season or snow tires during November–April.
- Complete and detailed work history required, including bed count, EMR, and facility type.
- Background checks, education verification, and various health and safety documents required prior to start.
- N95 fit testing required prior to assignment and updated annually.
- Flu, COVID, TB, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, and other immunizations/vaccinations or declinations required as per facility policy.
- Must complete required online modules (EPIC, Cornerstone) prior to start.
Documentation & Compliance
- Background check within 30 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
- Education verification based on highest degree.
- Professional references and employment verification required.
- Various facility-specific forms and attestations must be completed timely.
- Physical exam within 12 months required.
- Drug testing required for New York placements.
Summary
This is a travel Respiratory Therapist position focused on NICU and pediatric/neonatal care with a 16-week contract in New York. Candidates must have at least 1 year of RT experience within the last year, neonatal/pediatric exposure, current NY license, and recent EPIC experience. Flexibility in scheduling and floating is essential. Comprehensive compliance with health, safety, and documentation requirements is mandatory.
