Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse

Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: May 18, 2026


Schedule

  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
  • 36 guaranteed hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • No blocked scheduling

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience
  • At least 2 years of recent ER experience required

Clinical Skills Required

  • Interpret and manage heart rhythm changes (dysrhythmias)
  • Care for critically ill patients with multi-organ issues
  • Administer blood products
  • Manage central lines
  • Start and maintain IVs
  • Administer IV sedation and vasopressors
  • Care for stroke (CVA) patients
  • Care for ventilated patients
  • Manage BiPAP/CPAP
  • Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs)
  • Follow isolation precautions
  • Perform triage

Licensure & Certifications Required

  • Active New York state nursing license or compact license
  • If no NY license, must have applied and provide application date
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Additional Requirements

  • No disciplinary issues on nursing license
  • Interview conducted via phone or virtual
  • All requested time off must be submitted with application; no time off approved after offer
  • Traveler must arrange coverage for any additional shifts if needed

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Unexpired government-issued photo ID
  • Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start, signed by licensed provider
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • TDAP vaccine within last 10 years or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity verification
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
    • COVID vaccine records or declination
  • 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start
  • Professional references (2 within last 3 years)
  • Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
  • State-specific requirements including NYS Nurse Aide Registry and Medicaid Exclusion List verification

Important Notes

  • On the first day of orientation, nurses must pass a telemetry assessment with a minimum score of 80% if assigned to telemetry-related units.
  • Nurses are responsible for independently measuring and interpreting telemetry strips as no telemetry technicians are employed.
  • Stroke education (minimum 8 hours) and NIHSS training must be current and updated annually.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience
  • At least 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS certification
  • NIHSS certification
  • Experience caring for critically ill patients with multi-organ issues
  • Experience managing central lines
  • Experience administering IV sedation and vasopressors
  • Experience caring for stroke (CVA) patients
  • Experience caring for ventilated patients

This position is ideal for experienced ER Registered Nurses comfortable with critical care skills and telemetry monitoring in a fast-paced emergency setting.

Old community hospital, doctors are really out of touch, small hospital problems. Lots of drama. Same as every other small hospital.
