Job Description
- Produce accurate laboratory test results following established procedures within designated turnaround times.
- Notify supervisor of exceptional or discrepant results.
- Organize pending work for appropriate follow-up.
- Write manual results or work records legibly and completely.
- Report results accurately on work lists, logs, and via computer.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating workflow and test performance.
- Perform calibrations, preventive maintenance, and quality control (QC) procedures according to SOPs, documenting results properly.
- Troubleshoot testing problems (e.g., QC out of range, specimen issues, reagent or equipment problems) and notify supervisor as needed.
- Process and handle specimens, order required tests.
- Review QC results, quality assurance reports, reagents, kits, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, equipment, and media; follow up on out-of-range results.
- Perform efficiency testing and evaluate new products or procedures, submitting reports within required timeframes.
- Report complaints from patients, physicians, staff, or others to lab management.
- Communicate results by telephone when necessary and document actions per SOP.
- Maintain appropriate supply levels and notify supervisor of supply issues.
- Orient new employees in job-specific tasks.
- Attend hospital in-services and continuing education programs.
- Record receipt and label all reagents according to SOP.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients, assessing data reflective of age-specific needs.
- Uphold high standards of excellence, compassionate care, and respect for patient dignity.
- Apply principles of continuous quality improvement and work cooperatively with colleagues.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) license in California
- Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) with at least 1 year of experience
- Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) experience within the last year
- Bachelor's degree
