Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Location: Elizabethtown, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks

Unit and Patient Population

• Unit: Medical/Surgical Acute and Sub-Acute (25 beds)
• Patient Population: Chronic disease exacerbation, acute infections
• Age Range: 17-104 years
• Patient Care Modality: Medical/Surgical acute, chronic, telemetry, rehab with varying acuity
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Ancillary Support: CNA/LNA/PCT and LPN available; unit clerk on day shift; access to Physician Assistant
• Special Equipment: IV Pumps, Telemetry, CT IV Contrast, High-Flow Oxygen
• Respiratory support available 24/7
• Anesthesia support not available on unit
• Unit Procedures: IV therapy, EKGs, Telemetry interpretation, respiratory treatments, care for COVID patients

Schedule

• Shift Hours: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
• Rotation: One week 3x12 hr shifts; next week 3x12 hr shifts plus one 8 hr shift
• Weekend Requirements: Minimum every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Every other holiday as needed
• Orientation: 1-2 days
• Floating: Required

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of recent clinical experience in Medical/Surgical Telemetry, including telemetry experience within the last year
• One completed travel nursing assignment
• Experience in charge nurse roles
• Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system

Documentation and Systems

• Documentation System: EPIC ClinDoc
• Medication System: Pyxis with EPIC
• Dress Code: Professional scrubs, any color

Additional Requirements and Information

• Reliable personal transportation strongly recommended (public transportation not accessible)
• Must explain any employment gaps over 90 days
• Complete and detailed work history required (including bed count, EMR, facility type)
• COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
• Annual health requirements include:

  • Physical exam within 12 months
  • N95 fit test (specific mask types accepted)
  • Tdap vaccination within 10 years or titer
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray if positive
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Drug testing within 12 months
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (per flu season requirements)
• Background checks and verifications required, including education and licensure verification
• Must complete EPIC and other required training modules prior to start
• Photo for badge required two weeks prior to start
• Auto insurance required if using personal vehicle for work-related travel

• Assignment start date: Must start by March 16
• Assignment length: Up to 16 weeks
• No block scheduling allowed
• Bi-weekly orientation sessions available on Mondays
• Schedule may be adjusted to meet unit and patient care needs
