Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio. This is a float pool position requiring flexibility to work across approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and other metro campuses as needed.
Required Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
- Years of Experience: 2 years (higher value between 1-2 years required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- First-timers accepted: Yes
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Weekend shifts required: 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
- No on-call required
- No block scheduling accommodation
- Must be at least 75 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed minimum: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
- Floating required within scope; no home unit assignment
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Preferred Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Required Skills & Clinical Competencies
- Work settings: Med/Surg Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response: Dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring
- Cardiovascular care: Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization, AFIB management
- Other clinical skills: Sepsis, wound care, alcohol withdrawal (ETOH), suicidal ideation (SI), renal failure, gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), stroke, COVID care
Preferred Skills
- Cardiovascular sheath removal
- Feeding tube care and management
- IV therapy/phlebotomy: Accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care/management
Special Requirements & Equipment
- Virtual nursing capabilities
- 12-lead EKG proficiency
- Familiarity with AirVo, Voalte, Omnicell systems
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including multiple substances, must remain valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask (N95) testing required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Various facility-specific compliance documents including HIPAA, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Completion of required orientation and competency exams, including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, and unit-specific skills checklists
Licensing Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Kansas
- Primary source verification of professional license required
- NURSYS verification required for Missouri licenses
- Pending licenses not accepted
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kansas
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Experience in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring experience on the unit
- Experience with alcohol withdrawal (ETOH) care
- Stroke care experience
- COVID care experience
- Telemetry experience
- Med/Surg experience
Additional Notes
- Candidates must provide two professional references (supervisors preferred)
- Floating between multiple units and campuses is mandatory
- No local candidates accepted; must reside at least 75 miles away
- No on-call or block scheduling accommodations
