Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to function as a Case Manager responsible for utilization management, quality assurance, and discharge planning in an acute hospital setting. The role involves care coordination, inpatient care management, and post-acute clinical payer authorization. Must be willing to float between units as required.
Work Schedule
- Shift: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (5x8 schedule)
- Weekends off
- Block scheduling
- No on-call required
Patient Population & Setting
- Adult patients
- Acute hospital setting with some exposure to long-term acute care, rehab, and skilled nursing
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Minimum 2 years of direct patient care experience in an acute care inpatient setting
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience as a Registered Nurse Case Manager (RNCM), including case management within the last year
- Proven experience in acute hospital case management, including utilization management and utilization review (InterQual)
- Hands-on experience with inpatient care coordination, discharge planning, and post-acute clinical payer authorization
- Knowledge of medical coding relevant to case management
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex utilization and discharge planning tasks in an acute care environment
Key Responsibilities
- Utilization management and quality assurance for assigned patients/services
- Discharge planning and care coordination
- Conduct concurrent, retrospective, and continued stay reviews
- Manage appeals and denials
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and documentation standards
Documentation System
- EPIC
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to float between units
- Ability to work in a fast-paced acute care environment with an average daily census of approximately 30 patients
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 30 days of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Physical exam within the last 12 months
- Fit testing for respiratory protection (if applicable)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination during flu season
- Required training and competency exams as applicable
- Photo for badge (professional appearance required)
- Harassment prevention training certificate (California requirement)
