Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Contract Length: 11 weeks
Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Days (7 AM - 7 PM)
Patient Ratio: 1:4
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend if needed
On-call: No
Floating: May be required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities


Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required (First-time travelers NOT accepted)
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Preferred Certifications: NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Special Requirements:
    • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
    • Experience managing patient ratios of 1:4

Work Environment

  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
  • Total Staffed Beds: 304
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: Free parking available with a parking pass provided at badge pickup
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June - November), with peak activity in August and September. Travelers should consider this before accepting or extending assignments during this period.

Scheduling & Other Details

  • Block scheduling requests require manager approval and depend on unit needs
  • Local radius for travel: 60 miles
  • Locals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:

    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
    • Must include SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
    • Background check must be run within 90 days of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholders if verification is pending

  • Licensure Verification:

    • Primary source verification of active, unencumbered license with no pending actions
    • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
    • SC RN license processing times vary; walk-through (temporary) licenses available under certain conditions
  • Health Requirements:

    • Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to work without restrictions
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
    • Annual TB questionnaire completion required
    • Required immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
    • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
    • Respirator medical clearance required annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
  • Certifications:

    • Must be current and not expiring within 30 days of assignment start
    • ACLS and BLS required for all RNs
    • NIH Stroke Certification required for ER and preferred for other units
    • PALS required for Medical-Surgical and ER units
    • Other certifications (TNCC, NRP, EFM) as applicable based on unit
  • References:

    • Proof of 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the unit of assignment
  • Employment History:

    • Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
    • Application must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Facility Specific:

    • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
    • Clear, passport-style photo for badge required
    • Completion of facility-specific forms including confidentiality, contractor forms, ID badge request, and job description acknowledgment

Additional Notes

  • Floating between units or sister facilities may be required to meet staffing needs
  • Block scheduling is possible but requires approval
  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Travelers should be prepared for potential emergency response duties during hurricane season

This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs with prior travel contract experience, who hold the required licenses and certifications, and are comfortable working in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment using Epic EHR.
