Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6)

Position Details
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6)
- Required Years of Experience: 3 years (minimum)
- Trauma Level I Experience: Required
- If less than 3 years total experience, must have at least 1 year in Level 1 trauma
- Circulate role required; Scrub role preferred
- Must be well-rounded and current in most areas except Cardiovascular & Transplant (floating may occur)
- Call required: 6 call shifts in a 6-week period (can vary)
- Holidays required: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Weekend positions: Every Saturday and Sunday plus one rotating weekday
- No block scheduling
- Locals accepted (with specific pay adjustments)
- Pending license NOT accepted; must have Indiana state license and required certifications in hand before submission
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected
- First-time travelers accepted
Unit Information
- Units: Core 3 & 4 (General Surgery, Plastic, Gynecology, ENT, Trauma, Neuro, Orthopedics, GU, Colorectal Robotics)
- Average Daily Census: 70-80 patients
- Rooms: 21

Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted (required for all candidates)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA NRP only
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
- Chemotherapy certification - as applicable
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) - as applicable
- State License Verification (Indiana RN license)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment
Required Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (not required for Techs or RRTs)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
- Unit Competency Exam
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background Check within 90 days of start, including:
- 7 years residence/work history
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education Verification
- International search if lived/worked outside US in last 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education Verification by 3rd party (may be pending at start)
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Employment Application: Current with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months of start and annually
- Application must cover 7 years with all gaps accounted for
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test: Within 12 months of start; must be tested with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Preferred but not required; strongly recommended
- Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray: Within 1 year of start
- TB Questionnaire: Required and must be updated annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations/exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations/exemptions accepted; history not accepted
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination/Documentation (2025-26 season): Required for all candidates starting 9/30 or later; no declinations accepted; medical or religious exemptions require approval
- Color Blind Exam: Ishihara or equivalent with 100% minimum score
Additional Requirements
- Must complete facility-specific documents and orientation packets prior to start (time sensitive)
- IU Health mandatory RRT modules apply only to RRT candidates
- On-site parking is free
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrub color provided
Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RN travelers to work at their facilities effective 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RN travelers and certain allied/ambulatory RN roles (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS) who are exempt and allowed to work past this date.
- Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position.
This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with trauma experience who are flexible, able to work holidays and weekends, and hold an active Indiana RN license.
