• Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in Level 3 or 4 NICU
• Required Certifications:

  • Current Massachusetts RN license (conditional license accepted)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (Advanced NRP - AHA/AAP only)
  • EPIC experience required

Required Certifications & Competencies

• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for NICU
• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only (check unit-specific requirements)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only, required for NICU
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – Required for all RNs
• Pass/Fail Testing (Medication and Telemetry Exams) – Medication exam required for all RNs; Telemetry exam required for units with telemetry monitoring (not required for NICU)
• State License Verification – Required within 30 days of start
• NURSYS Verification – Required within 30 days prior to start
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., EFM for L&D)

Licensure & Background Requirements

• Valid Massachusetts RN license in hand (conditional license accepted)
• Background check: 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county searches, national criminal search, and education verification
• Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance required within 30 days prior to start
• Education verification of highest completed education required
• References: 2 references within 3 years of start
• Employment application covering 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start, including physician statement of fitness to work without restrictions
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable (2 PPDs or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days)
• TB questionnaire required for all candidates
• Immunizations or valid declinations required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (declinations not accepted for NICU)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – positive titer, vaccines, or declination (declinations not accepted for NICU)
  • Varicella – positive titer, vaccines, documented history, or declination (declinations not accepted for NICU)
  • Hepatitis B – 3 dose series, reactive titer, or declination (declinations accepted with conditions)
• Seasonal vaccinations or declinations required for:

  • Flu vaccine (required during flu season)
  • COVID-19 vaccine (most recent vaccination or declination)
• Drug testing within 30 days of start (urine drug screen including multiple panels)

Additional Notes

• Must pass medication and telemetry exams with minimum 80% on first day of orientation to avoid cancellation
• Some certifications and requirements may vary by specialty or unit; always verify unit-specific needs
• Compliance with facility-specific declinations and documentation policies is mandatory
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on specialty
