Registered Nurse - Critical Care Float Pool (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Weekend Day shifts: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), totaling 36 hours/week
- Role involves floating across various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity, including:
- Neuro ICU
- Surgical ICUs
- Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
- Cardiology/Diagnostics
- CVICU
- SICU / MICU / NCCU
- Nurses must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (highest required years of experience)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) - required for most ICU, PCU, and ED units
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
- Skills:
- IV Start
- Telemetry
- Ventilator management experience
- Prior travel nursing experience is strongly preferred (not explicitly required but highly valued)
Certifications & Competencies
- Required Certifications:
- BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Certification
- State nursing license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RNs
- Competency Exams:
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually, with remediation process if failed)
Health & Background Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually
Shift Details
- Weekend shifts only
- 3 shifts per weekend, 12 hours each
