Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Start Date: Preferred January 26th; February 9th may be considered
  • Orientation: Must be available for the first 2 weeks for orientation
  • Work Hours: 36 or 48 hour weeks available
  • Float: Will float to other Med Surg units approximately once per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Staffing Ratio:
    • Nights: 1:5-6 patients
    • Ratios may flex to 7-8 patients with LPN support
  • Patient Mix: Medical patients with specialties including ortho/neurovascular, cardio/pulmonary, GI, urology, hysterectomies, mastectomies
  • Must be willing to work with a variety of staff (RN, LPN, Techs, etc.)
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed

Licensure & Certifications

  • Michigan RN License required
  • BLS (AHA) required; pending BLS may be accepted if willing to obtain
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, ENPC, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI as applicable based on unit
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required for ER positions
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years Med/Surg experience preferred (minimum 1+ year required)
  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions/units
  • Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start
  • Immunizations required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (must include pertussis)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 45 days of start
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Flu vaccination/documentation required for candidates starting after November 1, with medical/spiritual exemptions accepted
  • References: One professional reference from supervisor/manager required
  • Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps

Additional Notes

  • Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam within 1 year prior to assignment with passing score of 80%+
  • Competency exam in specialty required within 1 year prior to start with passing score of 80%+
  • Color blind testing required only for laboratory setting
  • Facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct, Appearance Standards, and Vaccine Exemption forms must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Fit testing required onsite for certain roles; appointment must be scheduled and documented

This position offers a dynamic Med/Surg float role with a variety of patient populations and requires flexibility, solid Med/Surg experience, and compliance with comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
