ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work as a Critical Care Float Pool RN covering weekend day shifts with flexibility to float to various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity, including:
- Neuro ICU
- Surgical ICUs
- Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
- Cardiology/Diagnostics
- CVICU
- SICU / MICU / NCCU
- Float policy requires floating within units of equivalent or lower acuity.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Float experience, including within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Experience in ICU settings including:
- Neuro ICU
- Surgical ICU (SICU)
- Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)
- Medical ICU (MICU)
- Skills and experience:
- IV start capability
- Telemetry monitoring experience
- Ventilator management experience
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
Required Compliance and Documentation
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Fit mask test annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid for entire assignment length)
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate (must be completed prior to start and updated annually)
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment annually
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS license verification for RNs
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start (with remediation process if needed)
- NIH Stroke certification must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years (3.0 CE hours required)
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
Work Environment and Other Details
- Parking options available for travelers (costs and availability subject to change)
- Must be able to work night shifts and float across multiple ICU units
- Contract is travel/contract type with a 13-week duration
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with floating across critical care units and working night shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.
