Registered Nurse – Stepdown Neuro (Travel/Contract)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts per 2-week period, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 48

Unit & Patient Population

• Mixed Acuity: Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Stepdown care levels
• 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
• Patient conditions include strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological disorders
• Eight beds equipped for long-term EEG monitoring
• Multi-care level unit; nurses may care for up to six Med Surg patients simultaneously

Staffing Ratios

• Medical Surgical/Telemetry: 1:5 (day), 1:6 (night), occasionally 1:7 (rare)
• Stepdown: 1:3-4 (day and night)

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Nebraska
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS certification
• NRP certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Licensure & Certifications

• Active RN license for Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start; otherwise, booking delayed 6 weeks)
• ACLS, BLS, and other certifications as applicable per unit requirements (AHA standards)
• Required health and competency verifications including:

  • Background check (within 30 days of start)
  • Drug screening (within 60 days of start, updated annually)
  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (annual)
  • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, TB testing (annual updates)
  • Flu vaccine documentation preferred (mandatory for new contracts starting 10/1 and working candidates by 2/1/2026)
  • COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted

Work Environment & Additional Details

• Travelers are the first to float and must be prepared to float frequently within scope to various units, including but not limited to neurology, trauma, observation, and medical surgical units across multiple campuses
• Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some floors have LPNs
• 100% nicotine-free facility
• Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat night)
• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Up to 2 weeks permitted, requests must be submitted with application; additional requests at manager discretion
• Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
• Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
• Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates

• State-specific registry and abuse/neglect checks required
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
• Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required
