Travel Registered Nurse – Stepdown Neuro (Nebraska)
Location

Unit & Patient Population
- Mixed Acuity: Medical Surgical / Telemetry & Stepdown
- 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
- Patient conditions include strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological conditions
- 8 beds equipped for long-term EEG monitoring
Work Schedule
- 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
- Day shift hours: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Staffing & Ratios
- Medical Surgical/Telemetry ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights
- Stepdown ratios: 1:3-4 (days and nights)
- RNs must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs, including to multiple units and potentially a different campus
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications issued by the American Heart Association
- NRP certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Valid Driver's License
Licensure & Certifications
- Active RN license for Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start; booking delayed if not)
- ACLS, BLS, and other certifications as applicable per unit (AHA standards)
- NIH Stroke Certification required as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
Facility Policies & Requirements
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Scrubs mandatory: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
- Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Up to two weeks permitted, requests subject to manager approval
Background & Health Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check within 30 days of start, including multiple checks (criminal, sex offender, education verification, etc.)
- State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually (specific panel required)
- Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Annual PPD or equivalent TB screening
- MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed)
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed)
- Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
- COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
- Annual skills checklist required
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years (1 must be most recent employer if not a current traveler)
Additional Notes
- Must submit RTO and holiday work requests with application
- Floating may include multiple units such as Neuro, Trauma, Observation, and others within the hospital system
- Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here)
- Candidate must complete all required verifications and documentation prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with neurology/stepdown skills, comfortable with floating and caring for complex neurological patients in a high-acuity, academic medical center environment.
