Job Description
- Role: Registered Nurse in Emergency Department (ED)
- Cross-training and floating to other campuses and ED Observation units
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6 during both day and night shifts
- Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Clinician will float within scope to meet facility needs
- Block scheduling accommodations available
- No on-call requirement
- Travelers are assigned to one campus but may rotate to others and ED Observation
- Trauma/rescue rooms, triage, and locked behavioral health units are not assigned to travelers
- Level 1 Trauma experience is required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Minimum 1.5 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with ED experience within the last year
- Trauma experience required
- Current certifications:
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Valid Driver's License
Scheduling and Attendance Policy
- If a traveler RN calls out on a scheduled weekend shift, a makeup shift on another weekend within 6 weeks is required
- Makeup shifts replace a scheduled weekday shift to avoid overtime unless approved otherwise
- Failure to attend makeup shifts results in rescheduling and a final warning for attendance

Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 12 months of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Sex offender search required
- Education Verification:
- Highest level of education verified; official transcripts required if third-party verification unavailable
- Foreign equivalency evaluation required for internationally educated candidates
- Licensure Verification:
- Primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
- Color Blind Testing (minimum 80% score; required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024 and after)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ED/ER and telemetry units
- Physical and Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (clean-shaven required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Required immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season

Always given very easy assignments. Their MICU is combined with the MICU stepdown so travelers were put in stepdown once a week but it’s a 1:3 ratio there and assignments were fair

Very large unit so hard to get to know everyone/find people to help sometimes
