PICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Columbus, Ohio


Position Overview

  • Role: Registered Nurse (PICU specialty)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Weekly Hours: 36 hours
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care primarily in the PICU.
  • Float as needed to NICU, Cardiovascular PICU, Emergency Department, Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical units.
  • Must comply with facility float expectations and accept appropriate assignments in these areas.

Required Qualifications

  • Ohio State RN license or Compact RN license.
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience highly preferred.
  • Recent level 1 PICU experience required.
  • First-time travelers will be considered with approximately 3 years of PICU experience.
  • 2 professional supervisory references required (at least one must be a supervisor or manager; peer references not accepted).
  • Current government-issued photo ID matching legal name on RN license and certifications.
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start.
  • Valid certifications:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association only)
    • BLS (American Heart Association only)
    • PALS (American Heart Association only)
    • NRP (required for NICU RNs)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
  • State license verification required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification required, including highest degree verification through National Student Clearinghouse or equivalent.
  • Passing scores on medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including 7-year county search and education verification.
  • Fingerprinting (OH BCI/FBI) required within 60 days of start; must be updated for each new contract.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Sex offender search required within 30 days of start.
  • State-specific searches including Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Ohio Inmate Registry, Ohio Medicaid Exemption, and Ohio State Abuse Registry required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification must be completed and approved.
  • Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement must be reviewed, signed, and uploaded prior to start.
  • Affiliating Health Record must be completed and address must match official documents exactly.
  • Infection Control Policy review and signature required prior to start.
  • TB screening options:
    • Two PPD tests (first within 12 months, second within 90 days), or
    • IGRA (QGOLD/TSPOT) within 12 months.
    • For positive TB results, additional documentation and treatment required.
  • TB Questionnaire required for all candidates.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required within 10 years of start (must be completed after age 11).
  • Flu vaccine required annually between October 31 and May 31; medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer required.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers required; religious exemptions not accepted.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer required.
  • N95 fit testing required within 1 year of start and updated annually; specific mask models accepted.
  • Fit testing can be completed onsite if necessary, with proof of appointment required.
  • Fingerprint screening questions must be completed prior to start.
  • Flu exemption policy applies to candidates with approved exemptions; mask wearing required during flu season.

  • Resume or employment application copy required.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
  • Must be willing to comply with facility policies and float assignments.
