Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiac Telemetry
Location
- Salisbury, North Carolina

Contract Length

Shift and Hours
- Night shift: 18:45 - 07:15 (12-hour shifts)
- 36 hours per week
Unit and Patient Population
- Primary cardiac and stroke unit
- Care for stable pre/post procedure cardiac patients including pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, and post uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular/cardiac interventions without sheaths
- Patients with diagnoses such as unstable angina, low risk chest pain, congestive heart failure (CHF), dysrhythmias, new cerebrovascular accident (CVA), and transient ischemic attack (TIA)
- Unit currently includes a COVID-positive side with patients on opti-flow and chronic BIPAP (no new BIPAP initiation)
- Fast-paced environment with high patient turnover (78 to 90 patients per week)
- Target nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6 (nurses must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients during surge)
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in a similar high-acuity setting with experience managing patient ratios and acuity
- IV start and telemetry monitoring skills
- Experience with cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone)
- Comfortable managing pre and post procedure cardiac patients and multiple drips
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
Traveler Experience
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are welcome
Job Requirements and Expectations
- Call requirement: Yes, frequency depends on patient census
- Float requirement: Yes
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in a 6-week period
- No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
- Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling allowed
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
- Orientation: 36 hours, must be available every day during the first week for hospital orientation
- Dress code: Navy blue or white scrubs (or a mixture), jackets matching uniform material and color, no crocs with holes

- EPIC Dimensions for documentation and communication
- SBAR communication method
Special Equipment
- Telemetry monitors
- Pulse oximetry
- High flow oxygen (stable patients only)
- Non-rebreather mask (only for palliative care)
- BIPAP (only for chronic use, no new BIPAP initiation)
Patient Care Notes
- No unstable oxygenation with BIPAP or non-rebreather mask
- Respiratory rate must be below 35
- Oxygen saturation must be stable
Orientation and Testing
- Must complete a Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 72 hours of start (minimum passing score 82%)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams required for new contracts
- Color blindness testing required within 1 year prior to start
- Must complete facility-specific orientation and safety training
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
- Drug screening within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive TB with appropriate documentation)
- Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (per facility and Aya Healthcare standards)
- Physical exam (per Aya Healthcare standards)
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Photo for badge (passport style, business attire, white background)
- Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training
- Signed confidentiality and hospital policy acknowledgment forms
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Telemetry experience with a minimum of 2 years, including telemetry experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience managing patient ratios and acuity in a challenging and very busy unit
- Comfortable managing up to 6 patients during surge situations
