Job Opportunity: Nurse Manager - Patient Care Service

Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced

Job Summary

Lead nursing practice focused on Relationship Centered Care and Modified Primary Nursing to promote an excellent patient experience. Oversee purposeful hourly rounding, staff competency, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and physician dyads to ensure high standards of patient care and staff engagement.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Lead nursing practice using the Professional Practice Model of Relationship Centered Care and Modified Primary Nursing.
  • Demonstrate and role model Purposeful Hourly Rounding (PHR) behaviors; ensure staff compliance through direct observation and patient feedback.
  • Assess and provide feedback on staff competency in PHR.
  • Conduct daily rounding on all patients (Monday-Friday).
  • Communicate patient experience and staff engagement data to staff and interdisciplinary teams; develop and implement action plans.
  • Collaborate with physician dyads and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Follow up on patient concerns promptly and provide service recovery as needed.
  • Exhibit caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening in all interactions.

Patient Experience

  • Role model Relationship Centered Care practices including Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, HELP, AM/PM Care, 5 Minute Sit Down, Medication Review, Discharge Wrap Up, and MD/RN Unit Collaboration.
  • Lead staff huddles to identify high-risk patients and communicate concerns to nursing leadership.
  • Initiate service recovery and escalate issues to leadership and patient relations as needed.
  • Interpret and communicate patient experience scores and benchmarks to staff.
  • Consider patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs in care delivery.
  • Empower staff to use evidence-based practices to improve patient perceptions of care.

Quality and Safety

  • Design and lead a safe, therapeutic, and efficient patient-centered care environment.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective action plans for practice or operational issues.
  • Foster a culture encouraging error and near-miss reporting.
  • Lead interdisciplinary quality improvement teams using high reliability principles.
  • Review unit progress and compliance with quality and safety metrics with clinical nurses and healthcare team members.
  • Respond to safety hazard escalations and correct concerns following institutional protocols.
  • Monitor and address gaps in clinical nurse documentation and IT infrastructure.
  • Lead staff participation in quality, safety initiatives, and mandated compliance measures.
  • Ensure accountability for unit quality and safety practices and maintain staff competency evaluations.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in inpatient and acute care settings
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership roles
