Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Position

Location: Watonga, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care including executing provider orders, medication administration, and assisting in patient examinations and treatments.
  • Apply nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of inmates/residents.
  • Perform technical/clinical procedures within scope of education and licensure.
  • Attend sick calls with physician, prepare exam rooms, operate pill call, dispense medication, and document accordingly.
  • Assess new or ill/injured inmates/residents and refer to emergency care as needed.
  • Perform emergency procedures and coordinate professional medical services with contract personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.
  • Supervise licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
  • Maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies.
  • Use sound independent judgment while following corporate, facility, and correctional policies.
  • Evaluate medical service provision to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all medical records.
  • Assist with medical file reviews to ensure documentation of services.
  • Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely.
  • Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances.
  • Observe and document inmate/resident behavior.
  • Inspect medical unit for contraband and securely store or dispose of supplies.
  • Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups.
  • Prepare and maintain various medical and operational records and reports.
  • Interpret medical, technical, legal, and regulatory documents.
  • Respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings as necessary.
  • Support accreditation efforts by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.
  • Prepare safety and accident reports and respond to serious incidents and emergencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience within the last year, excluding Home Health, Hospice, and School Services.

Work Hours

  • 12-hour shifts.
  • 36 to 48 hours guaranteed weekly.
