Job Description
- Perform preliminary screening examinations for physician review, including:
- Central and peripheral visual field tests
- Ocular motility tests
- Color vision tests
- Pharmacological pupil tests
- Tonometry, tonography, and tensilon tonography tests to determine intraocular pressure and pupil size, equality, and reaction prior to dilation
- Manage patient flow for Eye Center physicians
- Obtain medical and personal data for patient charts
- Screen patients for conditions excluding ocular examination
- Arrange laboratory and other tests, ophthalmic photography, outpatient studies, patient admissions, and surgery as requested by physicians
- Explain diagnostic procedures and treatment methods to alleviate patient and family concerns
- Calibrate and maintain ophthalmic instruments such as bio-microscopes, lensometer, keratometer, tangent screen, slit lamp, and tonometers
- Clean and stock consultation rooms and microbiology laboratory with drugs and supplies
- Sterilize and set up instruments for ophthalmic surgical procedures
- Assist with minor office surgery, laser treatments, and operating room surgery as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Ophthalmic Technician Certification
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician, including experience within the last year
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification
