Job Description

• Assessment Skills:
  Competent knowledge of growth and development stages from Pediatric to Geriatric. Performs thorough, systematic, and accurate patient assessments.

• Clinical Skills:
  Provides competent and appropriate nursing care to surgical patients. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in emergency equipment and procedures. Performs direct patient care activities supporting the team.

• Documentation:
  Maintains complete and accurate documentation of nursing processes and patient progress, including patient education.

• Professionalism:
  Demonstrates professional responsibility and knowledge of policies and procedures. Identifies areas for clinical and professional growth.

• Patient Satisfaction:
  Responds professionally and courteously to patients, families, and co-workers. Promotes a patient-centered environment and maintains confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.

• Safety:
  Follows National Patient Safety Goals, including Universal Protocol and patient identification using two identifiers. Uses safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics.

• Unit-Specific Functions:
  Knowledgeable about surgical patient conditions, procedures, and equipment. Individualizes care based on procedure and anesthesia type. Assesses patient reactions and understanding.

• Responsibility and Accountability:
  Assumes responsibility for directing patient care, prioritizing based on patient needs and condition changes.

• Patient Education and Chart Completion:
  Assesses patient understanding of surgical procedures and instructions. Includes patients and families in teaching. Performs pre-operative and postoperative assessments and education.

• Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) RN Duties:
  Supports timely completion of patient testing. Evaluates PAT orders for appropriateness based on surgery, patient age, and health status.

Physical Requirements

As defined by Occupational Safety/OMS standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
• BLS Certification (Required)
• RN License (Required)
• CNOR Certification (Preferred)
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
