Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
Overtime: Begins after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
Unit: 41 beds, Medical-Surgical population including post-surgical, UTI, sepsis, high fall risk, COPD, CHF
Patient Ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:6-7
Float Requirement: First to float within skillset; may float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday
On Call/Call Back: Not required
Charting System: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class required)
Unit Environment: Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
Dress Code: Scrubs only; no competing health system or agency logos allowed
Attendance Policy: Three call-ins can result in termination
COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)

Required Qualifications

Experience: Minimum 2 years strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
Travel Experience: At least 1 prior travel assignment required
Trauma Experience: Level II trauma experience required
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current active compact RN license
- AHA BLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Skills:
- Remote telemetry monitoring
- Chest tubes, NG/PEG tubes
- Straight catheterization/Foley catheter care
- Ostomy care
- Heparin drips
- Blood and blood product administration
- Tracheostomy care
- PCA management
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
Personal Attributes: Hardworking, resilient, adaptable to change, social and team-oriented

Additional Information

Orientation occurs bi-weekly starting 6/15
Guaranteed set hours per week except during holidays when the unit is closed
CNA support and experienced leadership on unit
