Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Stepdown (Travel)
Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiovascular Stepdown unit on nights (12-hour shifts, 6:30 PM to 7 AM). This is a high-acuity cardiac/telemetry stepdown unit with a 32-bed capacity.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
- Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
- Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday
- Float Requirement: First to float within skillset to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
- No on-call or call-back required
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of strong Cardiac/Telemetry nursing experience
- Prior travel experience required: Must have completed at least 1 travel assignment
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Recent EPIC charting experience required (checkoff class will be provided)
- Must pass telemetry tests (12-lead EKG interpretation required)
Certifications
- Current active compact nursing license
- AHA BLS
- AHA ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Patient Population
- High acuity telemetry and cardiac patients including:
- Atrial fibrillation with RVR, flutter, blocks
- Heart catheterization without interventions
- Congestive heart failure (CHF)
- COPD, sepsis
- Behavioral health/CIWA
- Post ablations
- Dialysis patients
Skills & Responsibilities
- Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation (telemetry test required)
- Initiate and titrate drips (antiarrhythmics, heparin, etc.)
- Peripheral IV insertion
- Chest tube and indwelling drain management
- Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- Manage stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix)
- Antidysrhythmic medication dosing (cardizem, tikosyn, amiodarone)
- Nephrostomy tube care
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required
- Ability to manage change, be resilient, and work well in a team environment
Unit Information
- 32 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio:
- Days: 1:4-5
- Nights: 1:5-7
- Charge nurse rarely takes patients on days but does on nights
- Excellent unit retention and experienced team
- Teaching hospital: may require precepting students and new hires
Additional Notes
- No local candidates within 40-mile radius accepted
- Scrubs must not display competing health system or agency logos
- Three call-ins may result in termination
- COVID-19 vaccine not currently required (subject to change)
- Guaranteed hours except during holidays when the unit is closed
