Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Stepdown (Travel)

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Overtime: Begins after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday
• Float Requirement:

  • First to float within skillset
  • Possible float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
  • Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• On Call/Call Back: Not required
• Unit Size: 32 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-7
• Unit Type: Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
• Scrubs Policy: No competing health system or agency logos allowed
• COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)

Required Qualifications

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of strong Cardiac/Telemetry nursing experience
  • Trauma Level II experience
  • Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment (prior travel experience required)
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class required)
• Licenses & Certifications:

  • Current active compact nursing license
  • AHA BLS
  • AHA ACLS
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Patient Population & Skillset

• Patient Types:

  • High acuity telemetry and cardiac patients (e.g., Afib with RVR, flutter, blocks)
  • Heart catheterization patients without interventions
  • CHF, COPD, sepsis, behavioral health/CIWA, post ablations, dialysis
• Skills Required:

  • Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers must pass telemetry tests)
  • Initiate and titrate drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, etc.)
  • PIV insertion
  • Chest tube and indwelling drain management
  • Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Management of stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix)
  • Antidysrhythmic medication dosing (cardizem, tikosyn, amiodarone)
  • Nephrostomy tube care
• Additional: Strong assessment and critical thinking skills; resilient and adaptable; good interpersonal skills

Additional Information

• Orientation: Bi-weekly orientation starting 1/12
• Attendance Policy: Three call-ins may result in termination
• Unit Culture: Excellent retention and experienced team; manager with 15+ years on unit
• GSA Hours: Not guaranteed during orientation week; guaranteed set hours except during holidays when unit is closed

This position is ideal for experienced cardiovascular stepdown nurses who have prior travel experience and are comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment.
