Job Opportunity: Float Pool RN (MedSurg, Tele, PCU) - Prescott, AZ

Position Overview

  • Float between Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Telemetry (Tele), and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) units.
  • Includes inpatient holding in Emergency Department.
  • Work across two campuses (East and West) with varying unit sizes and patient populations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry.
  • At least 1 year experience in PCU setting.
  • Current Arizona RN license.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required.
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing.
  • Candidates must not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year.
  • Must be comfortable titrating drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.

Patient Population & Care

  • Geriatric and orthopedic patients.
  • Post-procedural cardiac patients (post-MI, post-cardiac cath, CABG post-op days 3-4).
  • Strong cath lab program with care for groin sites in stepdown units.
  • Nurse:Patient Ratios:
    • PCU: 1:4
    • MedSurg/Telemetry: 1:5-6

Unit Details

  • Float pool includes MedSurg, Tele, and PCU units across both campuses.
  • East Campus includes ICU and stepdown patients; West Campus has stepdown and MedTele units.
  • Nurse aids are utilized on all units.
  • Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow oxygen.
  • Telemetry monitoring techs present on PCU and MedSurg Tele units; RNs must interpret cardiac strips.

Scheduling & Shifts

  • 12-hour shifts, 7 AM to 7 PM (AM and PM shifts).
  • Schedule published 6 weeks in advance, 4 weeks at a time.
  • Night shift may allow block scheduling.
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
  • Holiday coverage included in permanent staff rotation.
  • No call or standby requirements.
  • Assignments communicated by text message 2 hours before shift start.
  • Travel time between campuses approximately 20-25 minutes.
  • Scrub color currently solid professional colors; transitioning to navy scrubs per upcoming guidelines.

Orientation

  • 8-hour general hospital orientation day.
  • 12-hour orientation shifts on West MedTele and PCU units.
  • East campus orientation similar but smaller and easier to navigate.

Contract Length

  • Approximately 13 weeks.

This role is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with multiple acute care settings, cardiac monitoring, and flexible scheduling within a float pool environment.
