Position Overview

A hospital in California is seeking an experienced OR Registered Nurse for a travel contract.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Active California RN License
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Work Environment and Details

• Unit: Operating Room (OR)
• Number of OR suites: 11 (staffed for 6-7, open daily)
• Cases per day: 15-30
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1
• EMR systems: Cerner, Surginet
• Call requirement: 3 weekday evening/night shifts and 3 weekend call shifts per 6-week schedule
• Call response time: 30 minutes
• Holidays: Rotate with core staff
• Shifts: Generally Monday-Friday, 8-hour and 12-hour shifts
• Floating: No
• Orientation: Approximately 1 week or until comfortable
• Scrubbing required for RNs: No
• Use of preference cards for cases

• Orthopedic
• Neurosurgery
• General surgery
• Excludes transplants
• Dedicated Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) and trauma teams available

Support Staff and Resources

• Charge Nurse assigns next day’s assignments
• Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) available
• Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7
• Pharmacy available 24/7
• Surgeon on call: 1 trauma surgeon and 1 anesthesiologist
• IV Team: Not available

Additional Information

• Scrub color and supplies provided
• Telemetry and ventilators available
• Sterile processing staff certified through IAHCSMM or CBSPD handle decontamination and sterilization duties
• Sterile processing shifts: 8-hour variable start times, Saturdays possible
