Job Opportunity: Surgical Tech (OR Tech)

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

A hospital in California is seeking an experienced OR Tech for a travel contract. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience and be certified as a BLS and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience as an OR Tech / Surgical Tech (higher value from description)
• Active BLS certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA
• Must have DaVinci Robot experience
• Prior travel experience preferred (not explicitly required, but noted as preferred)

Work Environment & Details

• Unit: Operating Room (OR) with 8 suites
• Approximately 15 cases per day
• Call requirements:

  • Weekend call required (variable based on needs and traveler preference)
  • Weekday call required from 11pm-7am (variable)
  • Call response time: 30 minutes
• Work schedule: 8-hour shifts, typically 6:45am to 3:15pm
• Orientation: Approximately 2 shifts
• Union environment with generally friendly permanent staff
• Floating: No, unless candidate has GI experience (possible float to GI lab)
• EMR system: Cerner
• Scrub color and supplies provided
• Common case types: General surgery, orthopedic (total joints, heavy ortho), podiatry, urology, gynecology, vascular, spine, plastics
• Orthopedic and general surgery experience is a must
• Call includes weekend and some holiday work as needed

Additional Notes

• The position requires flexibility with scheduling
• Surgeons on call are contracted and employed outside the hospital
• RT and Pharmacy services are available 24/7
• No IV team or ventilator responsibilities for this role
