Registered Nurse (Medical-Surgical Acute Care)
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Unit: Medical-Surgical Acute Care
Beds: 18 (mostly private rooms)
Shift: 12-hour shifts (7a-7p & 7p-7a)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun days & Fri/Sat nights)
Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation per policy
Call Requirement: No call required
Floating: Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed
Unit & Patient Information
- Nurse-to-patient ratio:
- Days: 4-5:1
- Nights: 5-6:1
- Patient types: General medical patients with various diagnoses
- Oxygen support up to 6L NC; stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or PRN
- Telemetry monitored remotely by telemetry department; unit uses Phillips equipment
- Two patient care technicians (PCTs) per shift, ratio approx. 9:1 when full
- 24-hour Charge RN coverage (may have patient assignment) and 24/7 house supervisor
- Unit clerk with 24-hour coverage
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation: One 12-hour shift with unit preceptor
- Travelers may collaborate with unit leadership for scheduling preferences
- Scrub color: Any color allowed, staff must provide their own (no pediatric scrubs)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Additional Notes
- Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage 24/7
- RNs expected to attempt IV starts; inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Pharmacy services available 24/7; all medications prepared by pharmacy staff
- Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required
