Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse to provide care in a Level 1 Trauma ED with 65 all-private beds including 2 trauma bays. The role involves caring for a wide variety of patients ranging from newborns to elderly, including critically ill patients, cardiac arrests, strokes, heart attacks, and trauma cases.
Work Environment
- Nurse-to-patient ratios vary from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on acuity and department needs.
- The ED is staffed with a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times and 2 charge nurses per shift.
- Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen devices.
- Telemetry/monitor techs are present, but nurses must be able to interpret cardiac rhythms and act accordingly.
- Radiology staff handle imaging transport; nurses and techs draw labs.
- 12-hour shifts with day, mid, and night options; no rotating shifts.
- Weekend and holiday coverage required on a rotating basis.
- No call or standby requirements for travelers.
- Occasional floating as a "help all" on other units is rare and not typical for travelers.
Required Certifications and Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience
- Emergency Department experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TNS
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in general nursing skills and critical care nursing in the ED setting.
- Ability to titrate a wide variety of drips including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensive medications.
- Able to recognize and respond to life-threatening cardiac rhythms.
- Comfortable working with trauma patients once stabilized and transferred from trauma bay.

- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius.
- Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours.
- Drug-free workplace with mandatory negative drug screen.
- Scrub attire: tasteful scrubs with solid-colored shirts underneath; no specific color required.
