Overview

• 13-bed Short Stay Unit in Peoria, Illinois
• 12-hour day shifts
• 36 hours per week
• 13-week contract
• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• NIHSS
• Overall general med/surg experience
• Must provide the last four digits of SSN, middle initial, and requested time off for submission
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5
• Common patient types include stroke, traumas, cardiac, and general med cases such as UTI, COPD, and cellulitis
• The unit is fast paced with high patient turnover
• Charge RN is present 24/7 and takes a patient assignment
• House supervisor is present 24/7
• PCTs are on the unit: 2 on days and 1 on nights
• Telemetry is house-wide using Phillips Monitoring; RNs are not required to read EKG strips
• Bi-pap, c-pap, and high flow are used on the unit
• Travelers are the first to float to other departments when needed
• If floated to a higher level of care without that experience, the traveler would be used as a help-all in a team nursing approach

Schedule and Policies

• Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday
• No on-call requirement
• Non-billable orientation is 12 hours, and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
• Unit orientation is 1-2 shifts with a preceptor
• Local rate applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles

• Scrubs are not provided
• No specific scrub color is required
• Avoid pediatric scrub tops
• The facility is a drug-free campus
